Matthew Flinders Anglican College
Matthew Flinders Anglican College on the Sunshine Coast sought to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions and deliver a more sustainable campus.
Delivered over 3 stages, the 471 kW solar system was at the time of installation Queensland’s largest school solar system.
With over 1300 students onsite, the project had to be completed with several logistical, scheduling and construction restrictions, as well as meet work health and safety guidelines.
There are only 3 or 4 periods in the year when Planet Ark Power contractors could access the site and the main window for installation during the summer school holidays happens to be the rainy season on the Sunshine Coast.
Planet Ark Power provided the design and installation of the largest school solar system in Queensland. The team had faced similar limited access and schedule challenges with other school projects and had the flexibility to complete work to meet the school’s needs.
Delivered in three stages, in January 2018 Planet Ark Power installed 175 kW of rooftop solar across the school’s early learning, junior and secondary education facilities to specification and on time despite severe weather delays. At the second stage, a 292.9 kW solar system was installed later in 2018 and an additional 99.56 kW system in 2020.

When Matthew Flinders Anglican College received its first report card in May 2018, in its initial months of operation, the solar system exceeded expectations with a generation output 8% greater than our modelling, and increased the potential for a faster return on investment.
The ability to deliver a large project across a technically challenging, multi-building site for a client whose operations strictly curbed access demonstrated Planet Ark Power’s capability to adapt and perform to client specifications.
Matthew Flinders Anglican College have future plans for additional solar and battery storage to provide a backup service to their IT systems.
